Return to BlogHistoric Baptism Sabbath at Olympic Way Seventh-day Adventist Church - By Anthony Hardley
Kingston, Jamaica — Sabbath, February 28, 2026, marked a historic and memorable occasion at the Olympic Way Seventh-day Adventist Church as the congregation observed Elders’ Baptism Day. This special initiative allowed ordained elders to officiate baptismal services with the Conference President's approval.
For the first time in the church’s history, two elders—Junior Ellis and Olivee Phillips—officiated baptisms, making the moment both spiritually meaningful and historically significant for the congregation.
During the service, two individuals were baptized: Oswald Simms and Mikayla Chance, publicly declaring their commitment to Christ in the presence of family, friends, and church members.
A particularly inspiring highlight of the day was the baptism of Oswald Simms, who celebrated his 92nd birthday on the very Sabbath he was baptized. His decision to give his life to Christ at such a remarkable milestone brought joy and encouragement to the congregation, serving as a reminder that it is never too late to make a commitment to God.
Church members expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness such a special event, noting the significance of elders being entrusted to perform baptisms and the powerful testimonies represented in the lives of those baptized.
Leaders and members alike described the day as a historic and spiritually uplifting moment for the Olympic Way Seventh-day Adventist Church, one that will be remembered for years to come.
